'Wilma'

A little history

In July 2022 we had gone from our first delightful ‘Delilah’ Beach Hut, elevated with her very own private sun deck – to our Rainbow Front Row Little Miss Sunshine who is a true crowd pleaser. In July we spotted an original brown stained Front Row beach hut further along the promenade. We spent the winter visiting and transforming it from a pretty dull looking hut to the most quintessential candy striped sweet fondant and marine splash beach hut. Betty Beach Hut to be precise. She has been available to hire since April 2023 and you are all loving her.

Just when we thought we were complete, in January 2023 we were told that the cute looking hut next door to Little Miss Sunshine was being sold and we just couldn’t say no !! Side by side huts are like gold dust and we just had to welcome her to the family. So let me introduce you to Wilma. The hut reminds us of The Flintstones with it’s fun exterior and childlike features. With Betty along the promenade, it had to be named Wilma. I think if we hadn’t already named our other huts I would now be tempted to name them Fred and Barnie!!

Wilma is another very eye catching beach hut and one that visitors to Walton on the Naze stop and look at. Sitting proudly next to Little Miss Sunshine, they make the perfect friendship and can’t wait to either be hired individually or as ‘side by side’ beach huts for larger parties.

What to expect

What better way to start the year with a date in the diary for the spring/summer months to come.  Take a well deserved rest with friends or family. Enjoy a beautiful relaxed day at our beach hut, where you can contemplate the unbroken beach views in comfort.  It holds a maximum of eight people. Get comfortable in one of the chairs provided, set up the tables and enjoy a picnic lunch while being lulled by the ocean scene.

A day at Wilma is sure to bring a smile to your face – however big or small you are.

Situated on the front row of South Cliffe Promenade, halfway between the pier and the corner turning into Frinton – she is perfectly positioned.

Her childlike appearance and bright cheerful exterior is a true crowd pleaser. With Little Miss Sunshine as her neighbour and friend,  the two complement each other perfectly.

Once inside, the colours continue throughout the hut. The main feature is a fun and crazy looking dresser with all the crockery and mugs you could ever need. There is ample seating inside also if you need a break from the sun and sea.

Our favourite part is the tea and coffee making area. Positioned perfectly under the large window, you can wait for the whistling kettle to boil and stare at the beach and lapping waves to your hearts content. You and your guests will be fighting to make the next cuppa!

You can pop a couple of chairs directly outside the hut and enjoy the views and people watching without venturing onto the promenade, or being an end of row hut – you have the choice of sitting to the side of Wilma. Alternatively you can put all the seating and tables directly on the prom at the bottom of the steps (there are 7 in total) and enjoy being part of the holiday vibes along the prom.

Steps leading down to the beach are in front of Wilma and Little Miss Sunshine.

You will find people constantly looking up at Wilma and Little Miss Sunshine with a big smile on their face and the attempt to take a photo without disturbing the guests.

Side by side huts for larger parties

Wilma and Little Miss Sunshine are the perfect beach huts if you have a large group of guests. Ideal for a birthday celebration as can cater for 16 guests maximum including children.

Tables can be placed on the promenade with chairs around them for a sociable area without blocking people walking along the promenade. We do ask that you are courteous and thoughful at all times with regards to this.

Who would Wilma be suitable for?

Families who love everything colourful and fun. You’ll only be a few steps away from the beach and sea when your little ones insist on going back again and again!

Larger groups of friends or family who like everything close by – with only a few steps from the beach hut to the beach.

Couples who like being amongst the fun of the seaside but can watch from afar in the privacy of their very own seating area directly outside Wilma. By late afternoon, move your chairs down the steps and onto the promenade for a few extra hours of sunshine – perfect!

A day with friends who want to be close to the sea and sand. Being an end of row position, there is an area to the side of Wilma you can happily sit and have a great time, without being actually down on the promenade. The choice is yours!

• Large water container to fill water from nearby tap

Things you’ll want to know

• Wilma is based at Southcliff, Walton on the Naze – Front Row.
• Max 8 guests welcome.
• Toilets approx. 3 mins away towards Frinton direction, 5 mins away towards the pier.
• Water tap directly next to  the hut.
• May’s Café approx. 3 mins away towards the pier.
• Pier/Arcade approx. 5 mins walk away.
• Walton Town Centre Approx 10 mins walk away.
• There are two large car parks approx. 8 mins walk away and free off street parking if available.
• Walton Train Station is approx. 8 mins walk.
• No water or electricity is provided.
• 2 small dogs allowed.

Please Note

There are 7 steps in total, leading up from the promenade to Wilma. Unfortunately there is no disability access to the hut directly, however the seating area on the promenade is accessible for wheelchairs etc.

A couple of chairs can be placed directly outside the hut and, for shade, a couple just inside.

For parties of 4 – 8 guests, chairs can be placed at the bottom of the steps on the promenade.

For very young children, please be aware there are 7 steps in total, leading from the beach hut down to the promenade. We recommend children are watched at all times when accessing the hut.
