A little history

My first experience of spending a day at a beach hut was one day in October 2021. I booked to go with my neighbours and our adult children. It was the ultimate ‘girly’ day. We all brought picnic platters and drinks, books, magazines and crafting bits. We did everything you could possibly fit in. We chatted, we ate and we drank. We read and we crafted. We relaxed, sunbathed, walked along the beach, dipped our toes in the sea. We walked along the promenade and down the pier. We took silly photos and picked which beach hut we’d buy if we could. We walked into town and mooched around the shops. We got fish and chips and sat watching the sunset.

My heart was full and I can honestly say that day at Walton on The Naze in my very first beach hut was one of the most wholesome days of my life. So my brain started tick, tick ticking …

I persuaded my husband, who had never had the ‘beach hut experience’ to come to Walton on the Naze, one day in October and take a look at a few huts I’d arranged to look around by a lovely lady called Sally – who I now consider a very special ‘beach hut friend’. There’s nothing this young lady doesn’t know about huts!!

Thank goodness it was a warm, sunny day in October – making the temptation harder to resist. The first few were either too far along the prom, too many rows up from the beach, not a great view or totally out of our price range. Without realising, we’d saved the best till last. We took one look at Delilah (I’d already given her a name before I’d met her) and although we knew she needed a complete coat of paint and a new veranda – we were not leaving without her. By the time we’d driven home – magical Sally had waved her wand and the deed was done. I went to bed beaming with happiness.

Delilah was purchased in October 2021. We spent the winter months painting and upcycling furniture perfect for the style we wanted to achieve, so she was ready to share with you all in April 2022. By July 2022 she was fully booked for the summer. You all fell in love with her as much as we did the first day we met her!

What to expect

What better way to start the year with a date in the diary for the spring/summer months to come. Take a well deserved rest with friends or family. Enjoy a beautiful relaxed day at our beach hut. where you can contemplate beach views in comfort. It holds a maximum of six people. Get comfortable in one of the chairs provided, set up the tables, and enjoy your picnic lunch while being lulled by the ocean sea.

Delilah has a wonderful nautical yet vintage feel to her. She is elevated from the promenade (2nd row), sitting perfectly with an unbroken view of the golden sand and lapping waves. Please note there are stairs with a handrail leading from the promenade to Delilah

Inside is filled with upcycled furniture – including a dresser filled with bone china cups and saucers from a dear friend’s wedding , cut glass wine glasses for that well deserved drink sourced from charity shops, and other little details you will be so curious about when you first arrive. We even have a mini Delilah that sits on the top shelf. Some of the other pieces are gifts from guests who have enjoyed Delilah – these are the more precious bits ! Even the bunting was made by a friend to match the ‘statement’ cushions that sit along the seating benches. In turn, my friend enjoyed a fabulous ‘Platinum Jubilee’ celebration afternoon tea at Delilah with all her friends. What a lovely exchange of gifts from us both – just like old fashioned bartering !

As well as the inside, there is a wonderful surprise outside. As you step out of Delilah, you will be greeted by our new natural wood veranda – all for yourself – private use. This is where the fun really begins. Set up your comfy chairs and foldable tables, grab the best spot and enjoy the views of perfect golden sandy beach and listen to the sound of the waves. Being elevated, you get to catch the rays until the sun goes down.

You’ve got the best of both worlds – beautiful seaside views, a private sun deck, access to Delilah – but away from the busy promenade. What’s not to like? Then, when you want to join in with the dipping of toes in the sea or building a sandcastle – you only need to skip down the steps onto the promenade, walk across to the stairs leading down to the beach – and off you go!

Who would Delilah be suitable for?

Couples who dream of a beach day, with the peace and tranquillity to savour the views while sipping prosecco and reading or chatting. Yet still not too far away to run down the steps and have a dip in the sea.

A girls’ or guys’ day out where you have ‘so’ much to catch up on but also want some fun in the sun and splashing in the sea

Families who want the best of both worlds – beach time with the children and a swim in the sea. But also some quiet time back at Delilah while the little ones nap.
